I Was a Moth
Written in the space of about 10 minutes
I danced around in the dark, with all the other moths
And I was attracted to a light, as we all are.
You were so bright and, I thought not so far,
And full of life and joyful.
I was a well-meaning moth only wishing to help,
Tired of the dark and in need of life and light,
Hoping you wouldn’t be repelled by the sight
Of a moth who came too close.
But it was my fate to fly too close to your light,
And I was burned like a creature of the night.
Yet I flatter myself that you were sorry to see me die.
